Chandigarh's Night Food Street in Sector 14, which was closed this February, will reopen next week. The MC has given the contract to run three stalls at the 24/7 market to a private hospitality agency. The stall will serve Punjabi and Chinese food besides bakery items and beverages. Only vegetarian food and eggs will be served against the charges fixed by MC.

Overcharging will evoke a penalty of Rs 10,000 and termination of the one-year contract. The contract can be extended for up to three years subject to satisfactory performance on an year to year basis, with 10% hike in license fee.

As per the terms and conditions of the contract, the complete rate list has to be displayed and proper hygiene has to be maintained. Food is only to be served in biodegradable tableware and use of plastic bags is prohibited, as is the sale of tobacco articles.

Food rates will be 50% higher than those charged by the previous contractor. Prices were revised after a survey. The new rates will allow the contractor to conduct smooth business.
