PTC Web Desk: In a bid to foster a healthier academic environment and mitigate excessive competition among students, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has decided to discontinue the practice of issuing merit lists for Class 10 and 12 exams starting from this year, as confirmed by Board officials on Monday.

The announcement came alongside the release of results for CISCE Class 10 and 12 Board exams on Monday morning, which showed a marginal increase in the pass percentage compared to the previous year.

Explaining the rationale behind the decision, CISCE Chief Executive and Secretary Jospeh Emmanuel said, "We have discontinued the practice of issuing merit lists for board exams from this year. The move is aimed at avoiding unhealthy competition among students."

It comes close on the heels of the approach taken by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which had also ceased the practice of announcing merit lists for both Class 10 and 12 exams last year. During the pandemic-induced school closures, when traditional Board exams were not feasible, alternative evaluation methods were employed, and neither CBSE nor CISCE issued any merit lists. However, with the resumption of in-person schooling, the practice of publishing merit lists had initially been reinstated.
