Punjab: Kabaddi players three-month pregnant wife found dead under mysterious circumstances, family alleges harassment
Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s family, police have registered a case against her husband, Jaspreet Singh, a kabaddi player, as well as her father-in-law and grandfather-in-law.
PTC News Desk: A shocking incident has been reported from Raikot in Ludhiana, where a three-month pregnant woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Burj Littan village.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s family, police have registered a case against her husband, Jaspreet Singh, a kabaddi player, as well as her father-in-law and grandfather-in-law.
Family alleges husband was addicted to drugs
The woman’s family has alleged that Jaspreet Singh was addicted to drugs. They claimed that he returned home after consuming alcohol, assaulted Harpreet Kaur and allegedly strangled her to death.
According to the family, Jaspreet had brought Harpreet back from her parental home just a day before the incident. They alleged that he attacked her on Monday night while under the influence of alcohol and later tried to make the incident appear like a suicide.
Family claims injuries on body
The family said they were informed by Harpreet’s in-laws during the night that her condition was serious. When they reached the house the next morning, they found her lying on a bed.
The family claimed that there were injury marks on her body and that her toe was also fractured. They immediately approached the police and filed a complaint.
Police have taken the accused husband and father-in-law into custody. Officials said the exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem examination.
According to Harpreet’s family, she was a resident of Mandi Ahmedgarh and married Jaspreet Singh of Burj Littan village in Mullanpur Dakha, Ludhiana, on September 27, 2025.
Harpreet had studied up to Class 12, while Jaspreet was a kabaddi player at the state level. Her family said she had been distressed by frequent disputes at home for some time.
Her father, Jagtar Singh, alleged that Jaspreet had often threatened her in the past.
The family alleged that Jaspreet used to assault Harpreet over demands for money and dowry. As a result, she had returned to her parents’ home in Ghungrana village near Mandi Ahmedgarh.
Harpreet was three months pregnant. A day before the incident, she had returned from the hospital after undergoing a scan and had shared the news of her pregnancy with her mother.
According to the family, Jaspreet visited Mandi Ahmedgarh on Sunday and convinced Harpreet to return with him to Burj Littan. He reportedly promised that he would give up drugs.
The family said they had been looking forward to the birth of Harpreet’s unborn child.
