Delhi restaurant denies entry to couple over Indian attire, CM orders probe
A video of the incident recorded outside the restaurant near Pitampura metro station, has gone viral on social media.
PTC News Desk: In a shockingly bizarre incident, a couple alleged that a restaurant in Delhi denied them entry for wearing Indian attire. A video of the incident recorded outside the restaurant near Pitampura metro station, has gone viral on social media.
The couple alleged that the manager also misbehaved with them while allowing entry to other people and restricting them. The person recording the clip stated that the restaurant, which was not allowing people with Indian attire, had no right to function, adding that it should be shut down immediately.
Soon after the video went viral on social media, Delhi cabinet minister Kapil Misra took notice and said that Chief Minister has been made aware of the scenario and she directed appropriate action.
"This is unacceptable in Delhi. A video has surfaced showing a ban on Indian attire at a restaurant in Pitampura. This is unacceptable. CM @gupta_rekhaji has taken serious note of the incident. Officials have been directed to investigate the incident and take immediate action," Mr Mishra wrote.
In a subsequent post, Mishra informed that the restaurant owners will no longer impose any attire ban on customers for entry to their establishment.
"The operators of this Pitampura restaurant have accepted that they will no longer impose any restrictions based on attire and will welcome citizens coming in Indian attire. On Rakshabandhan, they will also offer some discounts to sisters coming in Indian attire," said Mishra in his post.
While refuting the allegation, restaurant manager Neeraj Aggarwal said that the couple was denied entry as they had not made reservation. He further said that the restaurant has no attire policy and that all customers are welcome.
