Woman driver of BMW arrested after crash kills Finance Ministry official, critically injures wife

The accused, Gaganpreet, 38 also sustained minor injuries and was admitted in the same hospital. She was accompanied by her husband Parikshit Makkad, 40, at the time of the accident. The couple, lives in Gurugram and runs a business of luxury products. Parikshit, too, has been named in the FIR.

PTC News Desk: Delhi police on Monday arrested Gaganpreet who was driving the BMW, which killed the Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh and injured his wife Sandeep Kaur. 


Navjot Singh died while his wife Sandeep Kaur was critically injured in the accident.


The accused, Gaganpreet, 38 also sustained minor injuries and was admitted in the same hospital. She was accompanied by her husband Parikshit Makkad, 40, at the time of the accident. The couple, lives in Gurugram and runs a business of luxury products. Parikshit, too, has been named in the FIR. 


Earlier in the day, Delihi police lodged FIR under relevant sections in connection with the case. 


According to the police, the FIR has been lodged under Sections 281 (rash or careless driving endangering human life), 125 B (careless act endangering human life or safety), 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 238 (concealment of evidence or providing false information to protect the offender) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).


The victim's wife in her official FIR statement informed the police that she kept pleading the accused to take them to the nearest hospital after the accident-but was instead taken almost 20 km away to a small facility linked to the accused.


"I kept requesting her repeatedly to take us to a nearby hospital so that we could get quick treatment, but she did not listen," Kaur stated.


Navjot Singh was serving as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance. He died yesterday after his bike was hit by a speeding BMW in Delhi's Dhaula Kuan area, while he was returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara. He was transported to a private hospital in GTB Nagar where doctors declared him brought dead. While his wife is currently undergoing treatment.
