DGCA suspends license of SpiceJet flight's pilot in command for 6 months

New Delhi, August 20: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended the licence of the pilot-in command (PIC) of the SpiceJet flight for six months, sources informed on Saturday.

The captain had been asked by the PIC's co-pilot to skirt the clouds ahead and not fly through them, however, he ignored it. The incident took place on May 1, when the Boeing B737 aircraft operating flight SG-945 from Mumbai to Durgapur encountered severe turbulence during descent which resulted in injuries to a few passengers.

There were 195 people in total on board the aircraft, including two pilots and four members of the cabin crew.

At 5.13 pm, the aircraft took off from Mumbai and encountered strong turbulence during the descent, and the vertical load factor fluctuated between +2.64G and -1.36G.

According to the DGCA's announcement on May 2, during this time the autopilot disengaged for two minutes, and the crew manually piloted the aircraft.
