Andre Braugher death: Captain Raymond Holt of Brooklyn Nine-Nine passes away at 61

PTC News Desk: Andre Braugher, who was seen in TV shows such as 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' and 'Homicide: Life on the Street,' died at the age of 61.

Jennifer Allen, Braugher's publicist, confirmed his death to Variety, a US-based media outlet.

He was best known for his portrayal of Captain Raymond Holt on the police procedural comedy series 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,' which he starred in from 2013 to 2021. His stoic and no-nonsense personality made him an instant fan favourite of the show, particularly when paired in a scene with Andy Samberg's hotshot Detective Jake Peralta.

He also won an Emmy for lead actor for his role as Detective Frank Pembleton in 'Homicide: Life on the Street,' and another for miniseries or movie for his performance in 'Thief,' according to Variety.

Braugher was born in Chicago and attended Stanford University before enrolling at the Juilliard School of Drama.

As his TV career grew, he continued to appear in feature films, including 'City of Angels,' 'Frequency,' 'Poseidon,' 'Primal Fear,' 'Duets,' 'The Mist,' 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,' 'Salt,' and 'The Gambler,' according to Variety.

He is survived by his wife Ami Brabson and three children.
