Ranveer Singh sues film workers' body a week after 'ban' amid Don 3 row
PTC News Desk: The controversy surrounding actor Ranveer Singh and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has snowballed into a legal battle with the actor sending legal notice to the film workers' body over its recent non-cooperation directive against him.
The dispute between actor Ranveer Singh and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees has intensified after the film body received a legal notice from the actor. FWICE chief advisor Ashoke Pandit confirmed that the federation would hold another press conference in Mumbai later in the day to address the matter.
While the contents of the legal notice have not been made public, FWICE is expected to discuss the ongoing standoff involving Ranveer Singh and Excel Entertainment. The federation's action stems from a complaint filed earlier this year by filmmaker Farhan Akhtar against Singh.
In an earlier statement, FWICE alleged that Singh had not displayed appropriate conduct and had declined to engage with the federation despite repeated attempts. As a result, it announced a Non-Cooperation Directive (NCD) against the actor.
Responding to the directive, Ranveer Singh issued a statement saying he would not discuss the matter publicly. He stressed that he has the utmost respect for the film fraternity and everyone associated with the Don franchise, adding that professional disagreements and personal relationships should be handled with dignity, maturity, and mutual respect.
Ashoke Pandit had earlier said that FWICE-affiliated workers and members across all departments would not work on Singh's projects and urged producers to support the federation's stand. However, amid growing criticism, he later clarified that the organisation had issued a "directive" rather than a "ban." He explained that while FWICE members would refrain from collaborating with the actor, others in the film industry remained free to do so.
As the controversy grew, several members of different film bodies reportedly opposed the action against Ranveer Singh. Critics of the directive argued that such a move would be difficult to enforce and could ultimately affect the livelihoods of workers who depend on film productions for employment.
