Kangana Ranaut defends Aishwarya Rai Bachchan amid Cannes outfit criticism, says ‘Fashion Is Self-Expression’
PTC Web Desk: Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has spoken out in support of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan following online criticism surrounding the latter’s appearance at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
Taking to Instagram Stories on Monday, Kangana praised Aishwarya’s confidence and individuality, stressing that fashion should be viewed as a personal expression rather than something designed to satisfy public expectations.
Sharing a photograph of Aishwarya from the red carpet, Kangana wrote that style reflects a person’s outlook and attitude towards life. She added that no woman is obligated to conform to anyone else’s standards and said the actor looked “glorious” in her appearance.
Kangana also addressed age-related commentary often directed at women in the entertainment industry. In her post, she remarked that audiences should become more accepting of older women continuing to appear on international red carpets and public platforms.
Aishwarya, who has been representing L'Oréal Paris at Cannes as a global ambassador since 2003, attended this year’s festival alongside her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan.
For one of her appearances, the actor wore a striking blue couture gown designed by Amit Aggarwal. The structured ensemble, titled “Luminara”, was inspired by the idea of light in motion and featured sculptural craftsmanship and metallic detailing.
She completed the look with a shimmering dupatta, loose curls, soft-toned makeup, bold red lipstick, and diamond jewellery accented with blue stones.
The Cannes Film Festival concluded on Saturday after hosting filmmakers, actors and fashion personalities from across the globe.
