Dhurandhar eyes Rs 1,000 cr box office collection: Ranveer Singh’s film has rewritten Hindi cinema’s success formula, indeed!
Beyond box office numbers, Dhurandhar marks a major comeback moment for Ranveer Singh
PTC Web Desk: In an industry that usually depends on massive promotions, festival releases and spoiler-heavy trailers, Aditya Dhar’s political action drama has broken every rule in the book. Despite keeping its story under wraps, running for a daunting three hours and 33 minutes, and releasing without any holiday advantage, Dhurandhar is now inching close to Rs 500 crore nett at the Indian box office.
What makes this run even more remarkable is the conversation the film has sparked. From political debates to social media discussions, Dhurandhar has proved that cinema can still challenge, provoke and engage, without softening its message.
At its current pace, the film is now aiming for the elite Rs 1,000 crore global box office club, a milestone achieved by only a handful of Indian films.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Dhurandhar has already earned around Rs 700 crore gross worldwide in just two weeks. Strong weekend collections, packed theatres and steady footfalls during weekdays suggest that the film could cross the Rs 1,000 crore mark by the end of its third weekend. Such a trajectory is extremely rare, especially for a non-franchise Hindi film released under such unconventional circumstances. If it achieves this feat, Dhurandhar will join an exclusive list that includes:
Dangal: Rs 2070.3 crore; Baahubali 2 – Rs 1788.06 crore; Pushpa 2 – Rs 1742.1 crore; RRR – Rs 1230 crore; Jawan: Rs 1,160 crore, Pathaan – Rs 1,055 crore and Kalki 2898 AD: Rs 1,042.25 crore.
What sets Dhurandhar apart is that it relies neither on mythology nor franchise familiarity. Instead, it trusts the audience with a hard-hitting, layered narrative that refuses to simplify its politics or emotions.
Trade expert and producer Girish Johar credits the film’s success to director Aditya Dhar’s vision.
According to Johar, the biggest strength of Dhurandhar is that it treats viewers as intelligent participants. The film doesn’t spoon-feed characters or plot points, allowing audiences to engage deeply with the story.
He also points out that the film smartly blends genres: political thriller, spy drama, action and patriotism, without losing its core. This balance helped the film reach a wider audience while staying true to its tone.
Beyond box office numbers, Dhurandhar marks a major comeback moment for Ranveer Singh. In recent years, despite strong performances, Singh had slipped out of box office conversations. This film firmly puts him back at the centre.
Johar believes Dhurandhar gives Ranveer a new, more mature standing in the industry. Instead of dominating every scene, Singh allowed powerful co-stars like Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and Rakesh Bedi to shine.
This restraint, often missing in star-driven cinema, has been widely appreciated. It shows a confident actor fully committed to the director’s vision rather than personal image.
So far, Shah Rukh Khan is the only Bollywood star to deliver two Rs 1,000 crore global hits (Pathaan and Jawan). With Dhurandhar nearing that mark, attention has already shifted to Dhurandhar 2, scheduled for release in March 2026, just three months after the first film.
