“It’s Inspiring to work with Diljit Dosanjh”, says Imtiaz Ali on collaborating twice

Imtiaz Ali and Diljit Dosanjh have worked together for Amar Singh Chamkila and has been praised humongously. The creative collaboration between the two stellar has quickly grown into one of the more interesting director-actor pairings in the Indian cinema.

At the rercent event of IIFD 2026, Imtiaz Ali talked about his experience of collaborating twice in a row with Diljit Dosanjh, calling the actor’s passion and sincerity deeply inspiring.


Speaking about their back-to-back projects, Imtiaz shared that working with Diljit has been a rare and fulfilling experience in his career. He said, “Diljit jaise artist ke saath kaam karna hamesha bahut inspiring hota hai. Ye pehli baar hua hai ki main ek actor ke saath ek ke baad ek film mein kaam kar raha hoon, aur ye meri khushkismati hai.”

The two films he refers to are Amar Singh Chamkila and the upcoming Main Vaapas Aunga. According to the director, both projects revolve around strong, focused themes, and in each of them, Diljit has approached his role with complete dedication. “Dono hi filmein ek particular topic par based hain, aur dono mein hi Diljit Dil se kaam kar rahe hain,” he added.

Meanwhile, Imtiaz Ali is gearing up for the release of Main Vaapas Aunga, a period romance-drama featuring a stellar ensemble cast including Vedang Raina, Sharvari, Diljit Dosanjh, and veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. The film is slated for a theatrical release on June 12 and is already generating anticipation among audiences.

In addition to discussing his own work, Imtiaz also took a moment to acknowledge the success of filmmaker Aditya Dhar and his film Dhurandhar 2. Speaking at the International Film Festival of India, Imtiaz congratulated the team for drawing audiences back to theatres.

Although he admitted he hasn’t yet watched Dhurandhar 2, he expressed admiration for its reception. “Mujhe pata hai ki usmein bahut khoobsurat cheezein hain. Logon ko woh bahut pasand aayi hai. Main unka shukriya ada karna chahta hoon ki woh audience ko theatres tak laaye, aur main umeed karta hoon ki yeh silsila jaari rahe. Dhurandhar team ko badhai,” he said.
