Germany: Eight people killed in Hanau attack

Germany Hanau Shootings: At least eight people were killed in shootings in German city of Hanau on Wednesday evening, the authorities reported. According to the information, two hookah lounges were targeted.

After almost three hours of the shootings that took place at around 10 pm, the authorities were searching for the assassins on Thursday. Meanwhile, there has been no information on the victims and it said that the motive was not clear.

As per reports, the suspect had killed three people at the Shisha bar, before going to the Arena Bar & Cafe and killing another five victims.

The police also said that a dark vehicle was seen leaving the spot of the first shooting while another shooting was reported at a second site. The attack took place in a hookah lounge in centre of the city, Regional public broadcaster Hessischer Rundfunk said.

He added that the witnesses said that they heard eight or nine shots and saw at least one person lying on the ground.

The local broadcaster had reported that the assassin then went to another part of the city, where another hookah lounge was targeted. Meanwhile, the south east Hessen police force have also urged people to refrain from spreading rumours, adding that speculation does not help us.

It took to twitter and wrote: "❗ important information ❗ Please do not distribute videos, voice or text messages from unknown sources. Speculation does not help us any further. Thank you very much."

Hanau is about 20 km east of Frankfurt. It has about 1,00,000 inhabitants. The attack comes four days after the shooting in Berlin, near Turkish comedy show at Tempodrom concert venue, where one person was killed.
