New York: In a tragic and unfortunate incident, 42-year-old Indian-origin man Sachin Sahoo was shot dead by San Antonio police  in connection with an aggravated assault case.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Sahoo was shot and killed by officer Tyler Turner on April 21 after he struck two officers with his vehicle while attempting to evade arrest.

As per the reports, just before 6.30 pm on April 21, officers arrived at a home in Cheviot Heights in San Antonio for a report about aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

They found a 51-year-old woman who had been intentionally struck by a vehicle, allegedly driven by Sahoo, who had fled the scene. The victim was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital, prompting detectives to issue a felony arrest warrant for Sahoo.

Later, neighbors alerted police of Sahoo's return to the area, leading officers to confront him. In the ensuing confrontation, Sahoo struck two officers with his vehicle, prompting Officer Turner to open fire, resulting in Sahoo's death at the scene. One officer was hospitalised for injuries, while another received treatment on-site.

Police Chief Bill McManus revealed that Sahoo had allegedly run over the woman, identified as his roommate, before fleeing the scene earlier in the day. The victim was undergoing critical surgeries for her injuries.

Reports also mentioned Sahoo's struggles with mental health issues, as disclosed by his ex-wife Leah Goldstein. She described him as a devoted father who had battled bipolar disorder and exhibited symptoms of schizophrenia for the past decade.
