Gully Boy rapper MC TodFod dies at 24; Ranveer Singh, Siddhant Chaturvedi mourn his death

'Gully boy' rapper MC Tod Fod aka Dharmesh Parmar, passed away at the age of 24. After receiving the news, movie actors Ranveer Singh and Siddhant Chaturvedi mourned the death of the artist who was popular in Mumbai's underground rap circuit.

MC Tod Fod, who was associated with Mumbai’s multilingual hip-hop group Swadesi, was featured in the song India 91 in the 2019 film 'Gully Boy'. Ranveer shared a picture of TodFod with a heartbreak emoji, while Siddhant wrote, "RIP Bhai."

The news of his passing away was confirmed by Swadesi’s label Azadi Records and management company 4/4 Entertainment on social media.

The cause of his death is unknown. On March 21, his last rites were performed at his home in Naigaon, Mumbai.

TodFod's songs, according to Rolling Stones India, had an underlying theme of standing up against "corrupt institutions" and his music was also a reflection on environmental and human rights issues.

The rapper was also featured in the 2018 Vice India documentary 'Kya Bolta Bantai', which was about the Gully Rap scene in Mumbai.

"Gully rap is what I do. And I'm going to keep doing gully rap. But I'm going to do a lot with it," TodFod said in a video that was released by the studio mourning his death.

Meanwhile, Swadesi mourned TodFod's death by sharing a clip from his last stage performance.

"It was with this night that @todfod_ performed his last ever gig at Swadesi Mela. You had to be there to experience it, his thrill his love for playing live music. You are never forgotten, you will always live through with your music," the Instagram post by Swadesi read.
