Live bombshell found near Punjab, Haryana CMs' residences in Chandigarh; Army called in

Chandigarh, January 2: Panic gripped the locals after a live bomb was found near the residences of Punjab and Haryana Chief Ministers in Sector 2 of Chandigarh.

Being a high-security area, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s helipad, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar’s residence, Punjab and Haryana Secretariat and Assembly are situated nearby to the place where the bomb was found. 

"An Army team will be reach the spot Tuesday morning. Till then, the Chandigarh Police will look after security here. It is being probed as how this bombshell reached here. More details will be divulged thereafter," said Chandigarh SSP Manisha Chaudhary.

The live bomb was found near Mango Garden, adjacent to Mohali's Nayagaon. Chandigarh and Mohali police personnel reached the spot soon after getting the information. The matter was first reported to the police by the operator of a tubewell installed inside the garden.

Heavy police force has been deployed in the area. Confirming the development, Sanjeev Kohli, nodal officer for the disater Management, Chandigarh, said, "A live bombshell has been found here. It has been secured with help of police and bomb disposal squad. An Army team has been called in. The area is being cordoned off and further investigation is underway.
