PTC News Desk: In a strong remark against long-running personal disputes, the Bombay High Court on Tuesday postponed a 2017 defamation case to 2046, calling it an “ego fight” between elderly individuals near the end of their lives. The court said such cases waste judicial time and take attention away from more urgent matters.

Justice Jitendra Jain made the observation while hearing a case filed by nearly 90-year-old Tarinibahen Desai against another senior citizen, Kilkilraj Bhansali. The court noted that disputes like this use up valuable court time and slow down the handling of important cases.

The High Court also mentioned that it had earlier advised both sides to settle the issue by offering unconditional apologies, but Desai chose to continue the case.

Showing its displeasure, the court ordered that the matter should only be listed after 2046 and made it clear that it would not be given priority, even though the petitioner is a senior citizen.

Justice Jain said he did not want to add anything further and clearly stated that the case should not be heard for the next 20 years.

With this decision, the long-pending dispute has effectively been pushed aside so the court can focus on more serious and urgent cases.
