Delhi High Court virtual hearing hacked, obscene content disrupts proceedings
PTC Web Desk: Proceedings at the Delhi High Court were abruptly disrupted after an apparent cyber intrusion hijacked a live virtual hearing, causing the display of obscene content during court proceedings.
The incident occurred during a session presided over by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia. According to officials, the disruption began shortly after the division bench started hearing matters from the supplementary list.
Court sources indicated that an unidentified individual logged into the video conferencing platform using a suspicious username and managed to take control of the screen-sharing feature. Within moments, inappropriate and explicit material began streaming, catching both the bench and participants off guard.
Court staff promptly terminated the session. However, the situation escalated when the same participant reportedly re-entered the virtual courtroom twice more, each time repeating the act. During one of the interruptions, an unidentified voice was also heard warning that the system had been compromised, suggesting a deliberate breach of the platform.
Following repeated disruptions, the proceedings were adjourned temporarily. When the hearing resumed, stricter access controls were enforced. Interactive features for participants were disabled, and as a precautionary step, both audio and video feeds from the bench were restricted.
The High Court administration has formally approached the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police, seeking an urgent investigation into the suspected cyberattack. Officials confirmed that a preliminary probe has been initiated to trace the source of the breach and identify those responsible.
