PTC News Desk: The Centre on Friday appointed IPS officer Anurag Kumar as new Commissioner of Delhi Police replacing Satish Golcha, who had been serving as the national capital's police chief since August 2025.

Before taking over the top post, Kumar, a 1994-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, served as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

"With the approval of the Competent Authority, Anurag Kumar, IPS, is hereby appointed as Commissioner of Police, Delhi, with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders," the Ministry of Home Affairs said in an official order.

A day before his appointment, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved his transfer from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) back to his parent AGMUT cadre.

The officer has extensive policing experience in Delhi. He previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in several districts before joining the Intelligence Bureau, where he handled key intelligence assignments.

According to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), outgoing Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora Golcha has been directed to report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next assignment after handing over charge to the new police chief.

Golcha, a 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, had earlier served as the Director General of Tihar Jail before being appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner on August 22, 2025.
