PM Modi Chandigarh visit: Bomb threat triggers security scare at Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat

PTC Web Desk: A bomb threat targeting the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat triggered a major security alert on Friday, just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Chandigarh.

According to officials, a threatening message was received at the control room, prompting the authorities to immediately evacuate the Secretariat building as a precautionary measure.


Bomb squad conducts extensive search

Following the alert, bomb disposal squads, dog squads and police teams rushed to the spot and launched a thorough search of the entire Secretariat complex. Security personnel cordoned off the area while officials ensured the safe evacuation of employees and visitors from the premises.

Security tightened across the area

In view of the Prime Minister's visit, security arrangements have been significantly strengthened. Additional police personnel have been deployed at all entry and exit points of the Secretariat, while surveillance in the surrounding areas has also been intensified.

Authorities are maintaining strict vigilance to prevent any untoward incident.

Probe underway to trace threat message

Cyber experts and technical investigation teams have begun efforts to identify the source of the threatening message and trace the person responsible for sending it. As of now, officials have not confirmed the recovery of any suspicious object or explosive material during the search operation.

Further investigation is underway, and security agencies remain on high alert.
