PTC Web Desk: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in India on a two-day visit from August 18 to 19 to hold boundary talks with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Saturday.

The visit comes just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled trip to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

According to the MEA, Wang Yi will participate in the 24th round of Special Representatives (SR) talks on the India-China boundary issue with NSA Doval, who is India’s designated representative for these discussions. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also hold separate bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart during the visit.

The last round of SR talks took place in December 2023, when Doval travelled to China weeks after PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to restart multiple dialogue mechanisms at their meeting in Kazan, Russia.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to travel to Tianjin, China, at the end of this month for the SCO summit scheduled on August 31 and September 1, following his visit to Japan around August 29.

India and China have been working to restore relations that were severely strained after the violent Galwan Valley clashes in June 2020. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh, which began in May 2020, saw disengagement completed from the remaining friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalized in October 2024.

Since then, both nations have taken steps to normalise ties, including resuming the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, restarting tourist visas for Chinese citizens, and discussing the return of direct flight services. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar have already visited China in recent months for SCO meetings, as Beijing currently holds the SCO chairmanship.
