Six workers killed after under-construction bridge collapses in UP’s Hamirpur
UP bridge collapse: At least six labourers lost their lives and three others were injured after a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed over the Betwa river in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district during the early hours of Friday, officials said.
The accident took place around 3 am between Parsani and Kandaur villages, where construction work on a bridge connecting Maurakandar and Kurara was in progress.
Officials said several labourers working at the site were sleeping on top of a bridge slab when a section of the structure suddenly caved in following a storm, trapping workers under the debris.
The deceased have been identified as Lokendra (22), Kuldeep Nishad (19), Sawant Yadav (28), Sabhajeet (30), Pushpendra Chauhan (34) and Rajesh Pal (42).
Three workers who were trapped beneath a pillar were later rescued by emergency teams and shifted to the district hospital in Hamirpur for treatment.
Police and rescue personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident. Station House Officer of Lalpura police station Rajesh Kumar Saroj said the bodies had been sent for postmortem examination while debris removal work was continuing to ensure no other labourer remained trapped.
