CJP warns of wider agitation if FIRs not withdrawn, says guarantee to nation must be honoured
The warning came after the Supreme Court directed states to release all detained students below 18 years of age and those with no criminal record who were arrested during the protests.
PTC News Desk: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday warned that it would launch fresh nationwide protests, accusing the Centre of breaking its promise to withdraw FIRs against students who took part in the paper leak protests, despite the Supreme Court granting interim relief to those arrested.
The warning came after the Supreme Court directed states to release all detained students below 18 years of age and those with no criminal record who were arrested during the protests. The court also said no coercive action should be taken in FIRs related to the CJP-led protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar and in other states.
The Supreme Court cannot be politicised for government’s gains. Its orders cannot be weaponised to achieve those gains. A solemn guarantee was given before the nation. Those ought to be honoured. All FIRs ought to be withdrawn. If criminals roamed, police must apply for…

However, the CJP expressed concern that the court's order still allows governments to continue existing FIRs and investigations. The party said this goes against the Centre's assurance, given on July 25, that FIRs against peaceful protesters would be withdrawn and no student would face any punishment.
The CJP said it ended its nationwide protest only after receiving that assurance and now fears that the Centre and BJP-ruled states may use the court's order to continue legal action against students.
The party also questioned why the government's lawyers did not inform the Supreme Court about the agreement reached with the CJP, even though discussions had continued until late Monday. Calling the court's interim order "completely unacceptable," the CJP said the Centre failed to inform the court about the promises it had made to protesting students.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the party would return to the streets if police action against students continued. In a post on X, he said that if students continue to face harassment by the police, the Cockroach Janta Party will launch a massive peaceful protest and urged the government to stop targeting students.
