Meta issues apology after PM Modi's selfie video removed briefly from Facebook
PTC News Desk: Meta has apologised after a selfie video posted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing student protesters was briefly removed from Facebook before being restored.
According to sources, the video was taken down because of a technical glitch. The government is reportedly treating the matter seriously and has summoned senior Meta executives to explain why the video was temporarily removed.
In a statement, a Meta spokesperson said the content was removed by mistake and has now been restored. Sources said the Ministry of Information Technology has already sent notices to senior officials of Meta and Instagram over the incident.
The video was uploaded shortly after midnight last Thursday, at a time when nationwide protests were taking place over the NEET-UG paper leak and demands for the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
In the selfie-style video, PM Modi directly addressed students and said the government considered paper leaks and exam irregularities a very serious issue.
He said the paper leak had caused pain to lakhs of students and their families, which is why the government had taken several steps in the past two and a half months. The Prime Minister also said those responsible had been arrested and that conducting the exams quickly was important so that students would not lose an academic year.
