Delhi fire tragedy: Nine killed as massive blaze engulfs residential building in Shahdara

PTC News Desk: At least nine killed and several others injured after massive fire broke out in a four-storey residential building in Delhi's Vivek Vihar in the early hours of Sunday.

As many as 12 fire tenders were rushed to the site following information about the fire. The bodies of five of the nine people killed in the blaze were recovered from the second floor of the building, while three others were found in the staircase.
While several other people have been rescued, many are still feared to be trapped under the rubbles, resulting in suspected rise in death toll.
The most number of casualties were reported on the second floor, where five people lost their lives - Arvind Jain (60 years), his wife Anita Jain (58 years), Arvind's son Nishant Jain (35 years), Nishant's wife Anchal Jain (33 years), and their son Akash Jain (1.5 years).
On the third floor, three members of a family were killed. They have been identified as Nitin Jain (50 years), his wife Shailey Jain (48 years), and their son Samyak Jain (25 years).
According to the police, soon the fire engulfed apartments on the second, third and fourth floors of the building, triggering a large-scale rescue operation.
The exact cause behind the blaze has not been ascertained yet.
