PTC Web Desk:  In a startling development, the Ahmedabad crime branch has claimed to have uncovered a suspected murder dating back over three decades after recovering skeletal remains of a woman from an unused well inside a house in Vatva.

The remains were exhumed from a property located near Qutub Nagar Chowk following a tip-off received by the police. Officials said the case, believed to have occurred around 1992, surfaced under unusual circumstances, prompting further investigation.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajit Rajian, the breakthrough came after local inputs and growing rumours linked to the house, which had remained vacant for several years. It is suspected that the victim was murdered by her husband along with his brother and others, allegedly over issues related to an extramarital relationship.

Police sources revealed that in recent months, some family members of the suspects reportedly experienced recurring distress, including claims of seeing the deceased in dreams. In an attempt to address their fears, they allegedly conducted occult rituals at the property, which drew attention and eventually led to the police tip-off.

Investigators believe the victim could be Farzana, also known as Shabnam, a native of Dholka who had moved to Ahmedabad following her first marriage. She later married the prime suspect, but the relationship was said to be troubled.

As per preliminary findings, the woman was allegedly taken to the Vatva house on the pretext of a visit and was strangled while asleep. Her body was then disposed of in a well within the premises, which was not in use at the time. The property was later sold, but locals claim it remained largely unoccupied in recent years and had gained a reputation for being haunted.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Bharat Patel confirmed that the husband and his brother have been detained for questioning, while some other alleged accomplices are no longer alive.

The skeletal remains have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for DNA analysis. The police have also contacted the victim’s brother to obtain samples for identification.

Officials said while witness accounts point towards the deceased being Farzana, confirmation will depend on scientific evidence. A formal FIR and further legal action will follow once the identity is established through DNA matching.
