Delhi Police identifies four accused in alleged assault and racial abuse of two women from Northeast India near Nehru Place
PTC Web Desk: The Delhi Police have identified four key accused in the alleged assault and racial abuse of two women from Northeast India near Nehru Place in southeast Delhi. The incident, which reportedly took place during the early hours of May 10, has triggered outrage after the women accused a group of men of molestation, stalking and physical assault outside a club in the area.
According to police officials, teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused after CCTV footage from nearby locations and statements from witnesses helped investigators identify those involved.
The case surfaced after the two women approached the police alleging that they were harassed while having tea near Eros Hotel. They claimed that a few men started passing comments and making racist remarks at them, which later escalated into a violent confrontation.
One of the complainants alleged that she was molested during the altercation, while the other claimed she was attacked with a bamboo stick when they attempted to leave the area. The women also accused the group of blocking their path and threatening them against reporting the matter.
The police said a PCR call regarding women in distress was received at Kalkaji police station around 7 am on May 10. A police team immediately reached the tea stall near the hotel where the women were found.
During the preliminary inquiry, officers learned that an argument broke out after the women were allegedly subjected to derogatory and racist remarks. The confrontation soon turned physical, the police said.
Both complainants were later taken to AIIMS for medical examination.
An FIR has been registered at Kalkaji police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including voluntarily causing hurt, assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, stalking and common intention.
Police officials said the complainants informed investigators that they would be able to identify the accused if presented before them.
As part of the probe, the police questioned at least eight persons, including witnesses and passersby, before identifying the four main accused. No arrests had been made at the time of the latest update, but raids are underway at locations linked to the suspects.
