Delhi professor murder mystery deepens: Masked man, woman visited flat before body was found
Delhi University assistant professor Debosmita Paul was allegedly murdered on June 3. CCTV footage shows a masked man and woman visiting her flat shortly before her death, adding a new twist to the investigation
Delhi professor murder: The murder investigation of Delhi University assistant professor Debosmita Paul has taken a fresh turn after CCTV footage revealed that a masked man and woman visited her residence on the day she was allegedly killed.
Debosmita Paul, an Assistant Professor at Shivaji College, was found dead at a flat in Satyam Apartments in East Delhi's Vasundhara Enclave on Thursday. Police investigations suggest that the murder took place a day earlier, on June 3.
According to sources, three persons arrived at the residential complex in a private cab at around 3.20 pm on June 3. Two of them, a man and a woman, were seen wearing masks and carrying bags. CCTV footage reportedly shows them taking the stairs instead of the lift to reach the flat.
The two remained inside the building for nearly 30 minutes and later left. Investigators suspect they changed their clothes before exiting the premises. The cab driver waited outside during this period.
The police have detained the cab driver and are questioning him. Ride details are also being examined to identify the passengers and trace their movements.
Initial investigations have found no signs of forced entry into the flat, leading the police to believe that the victim may have known the people who entered her home. Officials suspect it could be a case of "friendly entry", where the victim willingly allowed the visitors inside.
Debosmita had been living alone in her sister's flat. She had separated from her husband in 2022 following domestic disputes. Her husband currently resides in Bengaluru.
The case came to light after Debosmita's sister, Devarati Paul, became concerned when repeated calls went unanswered. She later went to the flat and found it locked from outside. After entering the apartment, she discovered her sister lying in a pool of blood and informed the police.
Preliminary findings suggest that Debosmita suffered a severe head injury caused by a heavy object. Investigators also found that the veins in one of her wrists had been cut.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. The police are questioning neighbours, domestic staff and other people connected to the victim.
