Delhi: Spurned lover kills college student with iron rod in park, arrested
PTC Web Desk: A college student was fatally attacked with a rod at a park near Aurobindo College in Delhi's Malviya Nagar on Friday, the police said.
The police said they received information about the discovery of a 25-year-old girl's body near Aurbindo College in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar. The victim had injuries on her head. The police also found the rod used in the attack near the victim, identified as Nargis.
As per information, Nargis, a student of Kamala Nehru College, had visited the park with her distant cousin, Irfan, who has now been arrested on suspicion of murdering Nargis.
As per the police, Irfan had expressed his desire to marry Nargis, but her family declined the proposal due to his lack of employment. After the rejection, Nargis severed communication with Irfan. It appears that this refusal and subsequent estrangement may have been a significant factor leading to the tragic incident.
According to Chandan Chowdhary, South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police, the man (Irfan) was reportedly disturbed and affected by the termination of their marriage proposal. Nargis's decision to stop taking his calls and cutting off communication intensified his emotional distress, leading him to commit the tragic act of killing her.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal has also taken note of the incident and tweeted, "In a posh locality like Malviya Nagar, a girl was beaten to death with a rod. Delhi is extremely unsafe. It doesn't matter to anyone. Only in newspaper reports, the names of girls are changed, and the crimes do not stop."
