UP man kills parents, dismembers bodies with saw, throws them into river after dispute over interfaith marriage

PTC News Desk: A long-running family feud over money, property and an interfaith marriage culminated in a gruesome double murder that has sent shockwaves through Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh.

The mystery surrounding a missing elderly couple was solved on Thursday, five days after their disappearance, when police revealed that their own son had killed them in a brutal manner. The accused, Ambesh, has been arrested. Investigators said he murdered his parents, dismembered their bodies with a saw, packed the remains into cement bags and disposed of them in nearby rivers.

Police said Ambesh had married a Muslim woman in Kolkata during the Covid pandemic and the couple has two children. His family, residents of Ahmedpur village, strongly opposed the interfaith marriage and repeatedly pressured him to separate. Amid the tension, Ambesh’s wife began seeking maintenance, prompting him to turn to his parents for financial support, which further strained relations and led to frequent disputes.

The gruesome killings

About three months ago, Ambesh returned from Kolkata and began living alone with his parents. However, the arguments continued and resentment reportedly kept building. On December 8, after a heated altercation, Ambesh allegedly struck his mother, Babita (63), on the head with an iron rod. When his father, Shyam Bahadur (65), tried to intervene and raise an alarm, Ambesh assaulted him, beat him repeatedly and strangled him with a rope, police said.

After killing them, Ambesh allegedly used a saw lying in the basement of the house, where construction work was underway, to cut both bodies into three pieces each. He then placed the remains into six cement bags and cleaned the bloodstains using his parents’ clothes.

He later transported the bags in his car and dumped most of them into the Gomti river. One severed body part of his mother, which could not fit into the bags, was thrown into the Sai river while he was driving towards Varanasi.

Breakthrough in the probe

The couple’s daughter, Vandana, raised the alarm after she was unable to contact either her parents or her brother, and filed a missing persons complaint on December 13. The investigation took a decisive turn when police traced Ambesh on December 15. During questioning, he gave inconsistent statements, but eventually confessed to the crime under sustained interrogation.

Senior police officer Ayush Srivastava later took the accused to the house to recreate the sequence of events. Divers have so far recovered one severed body part, while search operations continue to locate the remaining remains. A murder case has been registered.
