Election Commission issues showcause notice to Prashant Kishore over two voter enrolments
The poll body has sought Kishore's response over the same within three days in connection with how his name landed up in two separate electoral rolls.
PTC News Desk: The Election Commission on Tuesday issued showcause notice to poll strategist and leader of the Jan Suraaj Party, Prashant Kishore.
According to the notice issued by the Returning Officer of the Kargahar Assembly Constituency (in Sasaram, Rohtas district, Bihar), Kishor is listed as a voter in Part 367 (Middle School, Konar, North Section) in Kargahar under polling booth number 621, with EPIC (voter ID) number 1013123718.
Simultaneously his name also appears in the electoral roll of the Bhabanipur Assembly Constituency in West Bengal with polling station at St Helen School, B Ranishankari Lane.
The poll panel reminded that according to the section 17 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, a person cannot be enrolled as a voter in more than one constituency. The notice warns that violation of this provision can result in penalties under section 31 of the Act including up to one year imprisonment , a fine or both.

Prashant Kishore meanwhile has not made any comment regarding the same.
According to the report, which quoted a senior member of Prashant Kishor’s team, he registered as a voter in Bihar after the West Bengal Assembly elections. The team member added that Kishor has applied for the cancellation of his Bengal voter card but did not provide details about the application’s progress. The report also mentioned that Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer, Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, did not respond to requests for comment.
