IIIT Nagpur student dies after fall from hostel building; stress over studies suspected
PTC Web Desk: A tragic incident was reported from the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Nagpur, where a second-year student lost his life after falling from the ninth floor of a hostel early Monday morning. The police is suspecting academic pressure as the reason behind the extreme step.
The student has been identified as 20-year-old Shreyash Chandrakant Mane, who hailed from Kolhapur and was enrolled in the Computer Science programme at the institute.
According to preliminary information shared by the police, the incident took place between 4 am and 4.30 am, a time when most students in the hostel were asleep. Officials said Mane had upcoming semester exams and was reportedly dealing with stress linked to unfinished academic work.
No suicide note was found at the scene. The police have registered a case of accidental death for now and stated that all possible angles, including academic and personal factors, are being examined.
