Gujarat University attack: Police have arrested five people in connection with an attack on international students at the Gujarat University hostel for offering Namaz. Meanwhile, the university has decided to relocate foreign students to a new wing and hire ex-servicemen to increase security.

On Monday, police arrested three more people -- Kshitij Pandey, Jitendra Patel, and Sahil Dudhatiya -- in addition to Hitesh Mevada and Bharat Patel, who were arrested earlier. This brings the total number of arrests to five, police said, adding that efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Earlier on Saturday a group assaulted students for offering prayers near the hostel block. This led the university to relocate international students to a separate hostel for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) within three days.

In addition, a foreign student advisory committee has been established, and ex-Army personnel have been deployed to strengthen the hostel's security.

Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Neerja Gupta has announced the immediate replacement of the study abroad programme coordinator and NRI hostel warden.

Tarun Duggal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, stated that a thorough investigation is underway, with technical surveillance and other methods used to identify any remaining suspects in the attack.

Police have filed a FIR against 20-25 unidentified assailants for various offences such as rioting, voluntarily causing harm, and criminal trespass.

Two students, one from Sri Lanka and the other from Tajikistan, were hospitalised following the incident on Saturday night, according to police.
