Guwahati horror: Man kills wife, stores decapitated body in fridge; husband surrenders
The incident came to light on Sunday night after neighbours alerted police about a foul smell coming from the house.
PTC News Desk: A 25-year-old married woman was allegedly murdered inside a flat in Guwahati. Police said her partially decomposed and decapitated body was found on the floor, while her severed head was recovered from a refrigerator.
The victim was identified as Riya Talukdar Goswami, who worked at a boutique. Her husband, Ramanujan Goswami, worked as a cab driver. The couple had reportedly been married for around six months and were living together in the flat.
The incident came to light on Sunday night after neighbours alerted police about a foul smell coming from the house. Police reached the flat and recovered the woman’s body.
According to police, the murder is believed to have taken place 24 to 48 hours before the body was discovered, as it had already started decomposing.
Husband surrenders, confesses to murder
Riya’s husband, Ramanujan Goswami, is believed to be the main accused in the case. He surrendered before the police and allegedly confessed to the crime.
Anurag Sharma, ADCP (East) of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate, confirmed that Ramanujan had surrendered and confessed to the murder.
Investigators have also found other disturbing details. According to ANI, the woman’s fingers were allegedly cut off during the attack. Police have recovered a weapon from the flat and suspect that it may have been used in the murder.
The woman’s body was later sent to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a post-mortem examination.
