PTC News Desk: In a major twist in Delhi acid attack case, the wife of the main accused has filed a complaint against survivor's father Aqeel, accusing him of sexually exploiting and blackmailing her.
This comes after a 20-year-old woman was hospitalised following an acid attack by an alleged stalker and his associates.
The accused's wife has claimed that she used to work for Aqeel some time back during which he forced her into relationship and blackmailed her using private videos. Police are in the process of registering an FIR based on her statement.
The survivor's uncle said her father is travelling for work and has not responded clearly to the allegations against him. He also said the allegations were aimed at derailing the acid attack probe.
According to the victim, Jitendra had been stalking her and an argument broke out between them around a month ago. As she was walking towards the college , Jitender, accompanied by his associates Ishan and Arman, arrived on a motorcycle. “Ishan handed over a bottle to Arman, who threw acid on her,” the police statement said. The student managed to shield her face but sustained burns on both hands.
The Delhi police has launched investigation into the matter to nab the accused involved. A case has also been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Meanwhile, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) condemned the acid attack on a Delhi University student, calling it a shocking reflection of Delhi’s worsening law and order situation.
NSUI national president Varun Choudhary said, “An acid attack on a DU student in broad daylight shows complete lawlessness in Delhi. Both the Delhi Police and the BJP government are sleeping. If women’s safety were truly a priority, such horrific incidents wouldn’t keep happening.”
The incident has sent shockwaves across the national capital with concerns over women safety echoing loudly with calls for stronger policing and stricter punishment for acid crimes in Delhi.
