PTC Web Desk: At least six persons lost their lives and several others sustained injuries after a passenger train collided with a stationary goods train in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district on Tuesday.
The tragic incident occurred on the Bilaspur–Katni rail section when the Korba passenger train rammed into a halted freight train near Lal Khadan area. The force of the collision caused several coaches to mount over each other, creating chaos and panic among passengers and locals.
Multiple coaches derailed due to the impact, damaging the overhead power lines and signalling systems, which brought train movement on the route to a standstill. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, local police, and rescue teams quickly reached the spot to carry out relief operations and evacuate passengers.
Emergency medical teams are attending to the injured, while senior railway officials are on-site overseeing rescue and restoration efforts. The accident has led to the cancellation and diversion of several trains along the affected stretch.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Restoration work is underway to clear the tracks and restore normal rail services at the earliest.
