Soldier martyred in clash near LoC during Pakistan infiltration bid; first major provocation by Pak after ceasefire
Unlike routine infiltration bids, this operation appeared coordinated and was likely executed with the support of Pakistan’s Border Action Teams (BATs)
PTC Web Desk: An Indian Army soldier was killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector near the Line of Control (LoC) during a heavy exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani forces amid an infiltration attempt.
According to Army sources, the incident took place late on August 12, when armed infiltrators tried to cross into Indian territory under the cover of intense firing from the Pakistan Army. Unlike routine infiltration bids, this operation appeared coordinated and was likely executed with the support of Pakistan’s Border Action Teams (BATs) — specialised units used for covert cross-border raids.
Indian troops retaliated swiftly, triggering a fierce gun battle in which one soldier sustained critical injuries and later succumbed. While the infiltration attempt was successfully thwarted, the intruders managed to retreat across the LoC, aided by poor weather conditions.
This marks Pakistan’s first major provocation since the fragile calm following Operation Sindoor — India’s retaliatory strike after the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. The operation had involved precision airstrikes on targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, followed by Pakistani drone attacks along India’s western border. A ceasefire had been in place since Islamabad approached New Delhi to de-escalate tensions.
