PTC News Desk: Violence erupted in Noida after a protest by factory workers demanding wage hike turned violent in parts of Noida with incidents of arson, vandalism and stone-pelting reported. Large groups blocked key roads, triggering massive traffic jams on the Delhi-Noida border, while police were forced to use mild force to disperse the protesters.

The unrest intensified in the Phase 2 area, particularly in Sectors 1 and 84, where protesting workers allegedly set at least two vehicles ablaze.

Large crowds came out on the streets, shouting slogans and blocking roads as tensions quickly spread across factory areas. Police stepped in to control the situation, using mild force in some places to disperse people while also trying to calm things down. Officials said teams are talking to workers to prevent more violence.

This happened even after authorities and industry officials had promised a day earlier to look into workers’ demands for a salary hike.

The protests caused heavy traffic jams at the Delhi-Noida border, especially on major roads like NH-9 during peak hours. Long lines of vehicles stretched for kilometres, leaving commuters stuck for hours as protestors blocked the roads.

Police from Delhi and Noida were deployed in large numbers to handle the situation and divert traffic, but the high number of vehicles made delays worse.

Security has now been increased in industrial areas under the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate, with senior officials closely monitoring the situation.

Authorities have asked workers to stay calm and avoid believing rumours, even as occasional clashes and disruptions continue.
