Zomato launches UPI services to make payment more seamless for consumes; how to set up and use?

Zomato UPI services: Gurugram-based Food and grocery delivery platform Zomato launched UPI services in partnership with ICICI bank as it aims to make payment more seamless for customers. The move is expected to enable the company to list its own UPI offering for payments. With the launch of the new UPI payments service, the company seeks to reduce the dependence on third-party apps for finishing payments and offer a better in-app experience.

In an official statement, Zomato confirmed the development and said, “Zomato has a large set of customers who frequently use UPI to make payments for their food orders. We are providing a facility (as technology partner to ICICI) for customers to create a UPI ID on Zomato app so that they can make payments seamlessly (without the need to switch apps),”

What is UPI? 

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a real-time payment system which is developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). This service helps users to transfer money amongst users directly from their phones using a UPI PIN on supporting apps. Google Pay, Paytm and PhonePe are some of the top players in the UPI service.


What is Zomato UPI service? 

Zomato UPI services is newly form of payment. In an attempt to reduce the dependency on third-party applications PhonePe and Google Pay, Zomato partnered with ICICI bank as it aims to make payment more seamless for customers. With the launch of its own UPI feature, Zomato is also trying to cut down on the cash-on-delivery (COD) form of payment.

Therefore, now the users won’t be required to do KYC and one will be able to personalize their UPI ID too.


Is Zomato UPI services available for all?

For now, the Zomato UPI service is visible to select users. People can check in the profile section of the app if they have received this service. The service is no available to every user because Zomato UPI is currently in its initial stage. Based on the response of the public to the UPI offering, the company will take its next step.

Zomato UPI: How to how to set up and use ? 

• Open Zomato app

• Go to profile section 

• Scroll down, find Zomato UPI section 

• Click on the the enable option to activate Zomato UPI 

• Verify your number 

• Select SIM associated with bank account 

• After adding bank account, you will be able to make payments 

   

Meanwhile, Walmart-owned Flipkart is also looking to start its own UPI offering, Other internet-led firms on the UPI network include MakeMyTrip, Amazon, and Meta-owned Facebook.
