Passenger can now shop for beauty products, home, kitchen essentials on board trains
Passengers would now be able to purchase beauty products, kitchen essentials and fitness tools while travelling from January onwards. The senior railway officials told the media sources that Mumbai division has given a contract for onboard shopping for passengers in selected trains. More than 16 mail and express trains have been selected for this contract. The contract for a period of five years has been given to a private company who has a license to sell these products.

Also, the contractor will not be able to sell any eatables, cigarettes, guthka or alcohol on board in trains. The contract has been given for five years at a price of Rs 3.5 crore.
According to the media reports, the goods will be sold only between 8 am and 9 pm only. It will be sold on carts. Also, two staffers in proper uniform will be selling the products. The passengers will be able to purchase goods on Debit and credit cards besides cash.

The senior railway official said, “A catalogue will be circulated among passengers from which they can choose what they want to buy when the cart circulates. We have prohibited any loud promotional activity for the sale of such goods.”
