Chandigarh, Sep 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the international airport at Mohali near here on September 11, officials said.
Besides, the PM will hand over key to the beneficiaries of affordable
housing scheme in sector 63 of Chandigarh and also address a convocation of PGIMER here on the same day.
Modi is also expected to address a public rally in the city on September 11, BJP sources said.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today held a series of
meetings here with the senior leaders of the SAD-BJP including Cabinet Ministers, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs besides the officers of the state government to finalise the arrangements, the spokesman said.
Badal exhorted the leaders of SAD-BJP and the top brass of the government to ensure huge participation of the people from different walks of life on this historic event.
He said that with the opening of International airport at Mohali,
Punjab has scripted a new chapter of its unending success story.
Badal said that the International Air connectivity from Mohali
was all the more important because it would connect the entire Northern region comprising Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir,
Uttrakhand and even the Western part of Uttar Pradesh with the rest of the world.
The Chief Minister said that earlier, a large number of passengers
from the Northern states were left with no other option but to travel
Delhi for boarding the international flights, which not only caused
undue harassment to them but also resulted in wastage of time, money and energy.
But the inauguration of this airport would facilitate the people
of region especially from Punjab.
Badal envisioned the airport as a catalyst to propel Industrialisation
in the state besides showcasing Punjab as the most preferred investment destination.
"This is really a momentous occasion for the Punjabis as Modi and
other dignitaries would participate in this function, thus all of
us should strive hard to make it a gala event," he added.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister deputed the Education Minister and
Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Daljit Singh Cheema and his advisor Tikshan Sud to supervise the arrangements and logistics for organising this mega event.
