New Delhi, February 20: In her debut Rajya Sabha bid, senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi secured an unopposed victory for a seat in Rajasthan. Simultaneously, BJP national president JP Nadda, along with three party candidates, clinched uncontested wins in the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat on Tuesday.

Sonia Gandhi, 77, filed her Rajya Sabha nomination in Jaipur on February 14, citing health concerns as the reason for not contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Her successful election to the upper house marks her first stint in the Rajya Sabha. She will fill the seat set to be vacant in April after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh completes his Rajya Sabha tenure. Bhupendra Yadav's (BJP) tenure is also ending on April 3, while the third seat became available after BJP MP Kirodi Lal Meena resigned from the House in December.
