ED appeals to Supreme Court over Arvind Kejriwal's campaign speeches following interim bail

PTC News Desk: Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, was brought before the Supreme Court on Thursday by the Enforcement Directorate, which claimed that his words were a slap in the face of the system. The Supreme Court, however, declined to address the issue.

The Election Department (ED) has taken issue with Kejriwal's statement that, should the INDIA alliance win the Lok Sabha election on June 4, he would return from Tihar Jail on June 5.

The Supreme Court granted Arvind Kejriwal temporary bail last week so he could run for office in the Lok Sabha Elections. Kejriwal was detained in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. On June 2, the AAP chief will have to turn himself up and return to custody.

"Arvind Kejriwal stated that he won't have to go to jail on June 2 if people support the AAP. Is Arvind Kejriwal's statement accurate? Tushar Mehta, the solicitor general, informed the court.

Justice Sanjiv Khanna responded to this by saying, "We welcome criticism of the ruling. We won't discuss that further. When he (Kejriwal) must surrender, it is our clear instruction. It is the supreme court's decree, and the rule of law will be guided by it. Nobody was given an exception by us."

The Delhi Chief Minister was presenting a plea to the highest court contesting his ED arrest in this issue.
