TMC MP Mitali Bag injured after her car was attacked in West Bengal’s Hooghly. BJP workers accused, three arrested. Incident adds tension to Bengal polls

PTC Web Desk:  A Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mitali Bag was injured on Monday after her vehicle was attacked in Hooghly district of West Bengal. The incident occurred while she was travelling from Goghat to Arambagh to attend a roadshow led by party leader Abhishek Banerjee.

According to reports, unidentified assailants hurled stones at her car, shattering the windows. Both the MP and her driver sustained injuries in the attack. They were immediately taken to Arambagh Medical College and Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Visibly shaken after the incident, she alleged that the attackers targeted her vehicle with large stones. “You can see the condition of my car. They threw big stones. I somehow managed to escape,” she said while speaking to the media.

The Trinamool Congress has accused supporters of the BJP of carrying out the attack. The party also linked the incident to recent remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that such statements may have contributed to rising tensions.

The  police have arrested three individuals in connection with the incident. The accused have been identified as Sintu Santra, Sanatan Santra, and Rajkumar Roy. Authorities are investigating their alleged political affiliations and the motive behind the attack.

Meanwhile, campaigning for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections concluded on Monday, covering 142 constituencies. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrapped up her campaign with a roadshow in Bhabanipur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed voters through an open letter, describing his campaign experience in the state as “spiritually energising” despite the intense heat. He credited public support and devotion for sustaining his energy during rallies and roadshows.

In a separate development, the Calcutta High Court dismissed a public interest litigation seeking the cancellation of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s nomination from the Bhabanipur constituency, where he is contesting against Mamata Banerjee.

Addressing a rally in Behala, Amit Shah stated that central forces would remain deployed in West Bengal for at least 60 days even after the elections to ensure law and order.
