PTC Web Desk:  A video showing a young Muslim man sitting inside the holy sarovar at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar recently went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage and debate over religious conduct at the revered Sikh shrine. The footage, which circulated widely online, showed the youth scooping water from the sacred sarovar with his hands, an act that many viewers described as inappropriate and in violation of the shrine’s religious code of conduct.

Following the backlash, the youth has now come forward to clarify his actions and apologise to the Sikh community. In a video statement, he said that he had long wished to visit Sri Harmandir Sahib and held deep respect for the holy site. He claimed that he was performing wazu or wudu (Islamic ablution) and was unaware of the strict maryada associated with the sacred sarovar.

The youth further stated that an unintentional mistake occurred during the process and admitted to lacking proper knowledge about the religious protocols of the shrine. “I did not know about the maryada of Sri Harmandir Sahib. I sincerely apologise to all my Sikh brothers and sisters. I will soon visit the Golden Temple again to personally seek forgiveness,” he said.

Earlier, as the controversy escalated, the matter reached the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). SGPC chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan confirmed that the committee has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident.

Earlier, in the day, Mannan said the SGPC would examine whether the viral video is authentic or has been created or altered using artificial intelligence. He also raised concerns about the presence and role of on-duty sewadars at the time of the incident.
