Punjab: Blast-like sound reported outside BJP leader Ashwani Sharma's residence in Pathankot
PTC News Desk: A blast like sound was reported outside senior BJP leader Ashwani Sharma's residence in Pathankot, triggering panic in the area. Soon after receiving the information, police officials and security agencies reached the spot and launched investigation.
No casualties or damages has been reported so far, however investigation is underway.
According to reports, Ashwani Sharma left his residence for Chandigarh at around 4:30 am on Sunday. About an hour later, at around 5:30 am, residents heard a loud blast-like sound approximately 50 metres from his house.
After receiving information about the incident, police, intelligence agencies, a forensic team and a dog squad rushed to the spot. The area was cordoned off, and investigators began examining the scene while reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras.
However, the preliminary investigation suggests that the loud noise was not caused by an explosion, but by a high-decibel firecracker set off by a local youth.
During the investigation, police identified a local youth in the CCTV footage. He was identified as Abhishek.
According to the preliminary probe, Abhishek had burst the loud firecracker, which created panic among residents who mistook the sound for an explosion.
As a precautionary measure, police have taken the youth into custody for questioning. Officials said they are also trying to determine why he set off the firecracker and whether there was any other motive behind the act.
