PTC News Desk: Sri Akal Takht Sahib rejected the new anti-sacrilege law, terming the legislation unacceptable citing that the law was framed without the consent of the Sikh Panth and ignored established religious traditions.

Meanwhile, Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has also been summoned and directed to appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib on May 8 in connection with the legislation.

The decision was taken during a Panthic meeting held in Amritsar under the leadership of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj.

The Speaker will be expected to submit a clarification over how a legislation of such nature has been passed without consulting Sikh Panth.

It was stated that the law does not clearly define the responsibilities of gurdwara managements and granthis. The Jathedar said the matter directly concerns the Sikh Panth, so decisions on it should be taken at the Panthic level, not solely by the government.

The Jathedar asserted that it is imperative to identify the rootcause of sacrilege cases and that the governments should put forth the truth before the public.
