Betting racket: Police arrest two bookies in connection with case involving Betting King Rinku

Patiala, April 16: Taking big action against illegal betting on IPL matches, Patiala Police carried out raids at various places in the city.

During the raids led by Chief of Special Branch, GS Sikand, two individuals were arrested near Radha Krishna Temple in the Model Town area of Patiala.

The arrested persons have been identified as Kulpreet of Ratan Nagar and Sonu of Ranjit Nagar. They were reportedly caught placing bets on IPL matches and other games, and forwarding the bet money to a person known as "Betting King Rinku".

Furthermore, a case has been registered against six people, including Rinku and Tarsem of Rajpura, under various sections of the Gambling Act at the Civil Lines Police Station in Patiala.

The accused, according to the police, were misleading people by pretending to have a valid licence from the Punjab government for their illegal activities.

Kulpreet and Sonu were caught using their mobile phones to bet on IPL matches, and police seized 13 phones and Rs. 74,700 from them.

In another case reported at the urban estate police station, police apprehended one perosn who was involved in Satta and recovered Rs 14 thousand.

The police action is intended to reduce illegal betting on IPL games and other sporting events in the city.
