FIR against Congress MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring over casteist remarks on Buta Singh
Raja Warring has been booked under Sections 353 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 3(1)(u) and 3(1)(v) of the SC/ST Act.
PTC News Desk: An FIR has been registered against Punjab Congress chief and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring in Kapurthala over his remarks about former Union Home Minister late Buta Singh. The case was filed after Buta Singh’s son, Sarabjot Singh Sidhu, lodged a complaint with the police.
Raja Warring has been booked under Sections 353 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 3(1)(u) and 3(1)(v) of the SC/ST Act.
Earlier on Monday, state finance minister Harpal Cheema warned that significant legal action would be taken against Warring.
Notably, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) on Tuesday issued a notice to the Tarn Taran deputy commissioner (DC) and senior superintendent of police in connection with Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s allegedly “casteist remarks” made against former Union home minister Buta Singh during an election rally in the district.
While campaigning for the Congress candidate in the November 11 Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll, Warring made certain remarks about the former Union minister that sparked strong criticism from leaders of other political parties.
Responding to the backlash, Warring clarified that the late Buta Singh, a senior Congress leader, was like a father figure to him and that he had no intention of showing any disrespect toward him or anyone else. “I want to reiterate that I meant no disrespect to the late Sardar Buta Singh, but if my words have hurt anyone, I sincerely and unconditionally apologise,” he said.
