Operation Blue Star anniversary: Security heightened across Amritsar, 2500 cops deployed

PTC News Desk: Security across Amritsar has been significantly heightened ahead of the Operation Blue Star anniversary to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of devotees. The Amritsar Police will also be holding flag march till June 6 across the city. 


The flag marches are being carried out in major markets, the old city areas, around the Golden Temple, and other sensitive locations.  Officials said the objective is to instill a sense of security among the public and keep a close watch on any rumours or anti-social activities.


Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said a special security plan has been prepared for Ghallughara Week. Several meetings have been held with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee regarding the arrangements. Five companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have already arrived in Amritsar and have been deployed in the city's outer areas. Meanwhile, around 2,500 officers and personnel of the Punjab Police have been assigned duties to secure the Golden Temple and the inner parts of the city. The city has been divided into different sectors to further strengthen security measures.


Special Focus on Patrolling and Checkpoints


Police said regular patrolling, vehicle checks, and security checkpoints are being maintained across the city. Sensitive locations are under heightened surveillance to prevent any untoward incidents. Special briefings have also been conducted for police officers and personnel. They have been instructed to remain vigilant while also maintaining a cooperative and helpful attitude towards devotees, ensuring that pilgrims arriving from across India and abroad do not face any inconvenience.
