Punjab: Sushil Kumar Rinku is AAPs candidate for Jalandhar LS bypoll

PTC Web Desk: A day after being expelled from the Congress over alleged anti-party activities, Sushil Kumar Rinku has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and was on Thursday named party candidate for the upcoming Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll.

Notably, the byelections for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat would be held on May 10 and the counting of votes would take place on May 13. The bypoll has been necessitated following the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary in January, when Bharat Jodo Yatra was underway.

On Wednesday, Sushil Rinku joined the AAP in the presence of Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Earlier, Rinku was Congress MLA from Jalandhar West. However, in the 2022 Assembly elections, he suffered defeat at the hands of AAP's Sheetal Angural.
